These days finding sauces that use all-natural ingredients is fairly easy whether it be at your local grocery store or online. The key to finding a healthy sauce not full of ‘bad stuff’ is…reading. Read the ingredients on the bottle. One of the lasting benefits of whole30 is that you really get in the habit of reading the labels on everything. It’s kind of essential to a successful whole30. In an effort to show you that you can still create healthy slow cooker meals with store-bought sauces, I am creating a 5-recipe series using some healthy sauces I’ve found or like. First up is this pork and potatoes recipe using Red Fishberger’s fiery mango sauce.

Social media has become my main source of inspiration. I found Red Fishberger via Facebook. As soon as I saw the nutritional value I knew that I wanted to try it. The back of the bottle lists the ingredients and they’re ALL NATURAL. Perfect.

In my opinion, a key factor when it come to slow cooking with sauces is the proper dilution. Most sauces aren’t meant for straight slow cooking. Meaning they aren’t meant to be poured into the slow cooker on top of food and that’s it. They usually need to be diluted first. In general I prefer to dilute with water. How much water should you use? Using 2 lbs of meat, I would suggest 1 cup of sauce. Usually my ratio is 3/4 cup sauce, 1/4 cup water. However before you go with that ratio please taste the sauce that you’re using! Red Fishberger’s fiery mango contains habaneros and they definitely bring the heat. This sauce is really spicy so I ended up using 1/2 cup sauce & 1/2 cup of water.
